Position Summary

The Marketing and Sales Internship at VSU Multi-Purpose Center is designed to give the student a complete working understanding of marketing and sales in the arena management and event management fields. The intern will learn to coordinate, implement, and work on projects that will encompass plans for the event season at VSU Multi-Purpose Center. They will showcase their talents to design and develop new concepts for the arena.  They will also assist the marketing team with completing tasks necessary for the overall campaign for the upcoming event season with heavy focus on creative, social media and grassroots. 

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of  $13. 

 

This position will remain open until December 31, 2024

About the Venue

The VSU Multi-Purpose Center is a state-of-the-art multipurpose venue located on the campus of Virginia State University, in South Chesterfield, VA. The arena is able to seat more than 6,000 guests, making it the largest events venue located south of Richmond in the state of Virginia. The amenities-packed arena serves as a full entertainment facility hosting athletic events, commencements, live concerts, family shows, trade shows, and more. Formally opening its doors to the public in March of 2016, the VSU Multi-Purpose Center is home to the Virginia State University Trojans Basketball and Volleyball teams. 

Responsibilities

  • Market research that will require making phone calls, emailing, searching the internet, and conducting meetings with individuals within the market
  • Participate in developing and implementing event marketing, sales plans and promotions led by our Venue Marketing leaders
  • Assist with grassroots marketing, including creation and distribution of flyers, hanging posters, tabling and creating relationships with various retailers to promote events
  • Assist in managing the various social media sites – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • Update community calendars of events with detailed information on each show or event
  • Interacting with building staff, athletics, campus employee with various projects
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned to help achieve the overall goal of the marketing department.
  • Participate in meetings in order to learn more about Marketing in real time.

Qualifications

  • Virginia State University Junior, senior, or graduate students preferred
  • Must be actively enrolled in school
  • Available to work and minimum of 12 hours a week
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Strong writing, communication, proofreading, and creative skills
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, and ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Well organized with ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments
